Around 58 percent of US Google searches now end without a click, and the pattern is spreading globally. Businesses survive by winning the on-page real estate that remains: local packs, AI citations, and brand searches that bypass discovery entirely.
The click was never the goal. The customer was. Zero-click search feels like theft if you measure traffic, and like a channel shift if you measure enquiries. The searcher still needs a plumber, a clinic, a supplier. The question is whose name is in the answer they read.
Three surfaces still convert without a website visit: the local pack with its call and directions buttons, AI answer citations that name your brand, and knowledge panels fed by your entity data. All three are earned with structured, consistent, verifiable business information.
Measure what matters now
Move your reporting from sessions to actions: calls, direction requests, WhatsApp messages, form fills. Google Business Profile and call tracking cover most of it.
Then invest in being worth a branded search. A customer who searches your name after seeing you cited in an AI answer converts at rates organic traffic never matched.
